OSMC is located at 15 Orange Street, Canterbury,
which runs parallel to the main High Street shops and is situated
just a few yards from the Marlowe Theatre. As you enter and walk
through our own exclusive double doors at street level, you proceed
up our sweeping staircase to the first floor (our Chaucer gallery)
which then leads you through to the grand hall (our Becket Gallery),
a former ballroom.
Built in the 19th Century with exquisite interior
features, the grand hall is a unique building which has retained
many of its historical features and now as OSMC it has regained
its full stylistic charm. It remains crucial to us to retain those
features that make this such a remarkable and historic building,
whist keeping the interior up to date in design. OSMC offers you
two art galleries showcasing local and national talent with afternoon
coffee, but it is our evening entertainment performed in our ‘one
of a kind’ grand hall which makes us unique, as a cultural
hub of Canterbury and surrounding Kent.
After creating established links with The
Marlowe Theatre, Kent Hot House film company as well as numerous
University links, OSMC brings you theatre and comedy nights, local
and national film nights as well as high quality music performances
from local, national and international talents. See our What's
On pages for events details.
Our aim is to bring you a diverse range of musical
genres, not only catering for your unique tastes but we also invite
you to sample musical styles which otherwise you may not have encountered.
From jazz nights to dance acts, folk duos to acoustic grunge, solo
artists to full bands, our aim is to broaden peoples eyes, ears
and minds with an eclectic mix of arts, music, comedy, film and theatre.
